Celina Jaitley campaigns for gay rights

Mumbai: Former Miss World Celina Jaitley wants a little more than world peace. The actress is rallying for the LGBT community in India. Celina voiced her support for the community on Monday by campaigning for a repealing of section 377 of the Indian Penal Code which criminalises homosexuality. 


"It's high time we wake up and accept homosexuality. I'm very happy that our new, young government has woken up and wants to repeal this law. The Law Minister and Home Minister P Chindambaram and the Health Minister are going to sit on this issue and even our Prime Minister supports us. I'm so glad. This shows the new modern face of India to the new world," says she. 


Celina who earlier relaunched India's first LGBT magazine Bombay Dost hopes that India's conservative attitude towards homosexuals will change with time. 


"It may take people time to accept this, just like when sati was abolished, in the same way, people will take time to get used to it. Most of the people don't know what homosexuality, transgender, etc are. Without knowing this, there are people who are coming and threatening me for supporting homosexuality. Being a homosexual, you aren't professionally less; people's nature shouldn't be judged according to their sexuality," says she. 


One hopes Celina - who was last seen in Paying Guests - is working just as hard to resurrect her career in Bollywood
